Project 3b - Linnaeus Teaching Garden Plan Your Event
Julie had the front side of the brochure, I had the inside. After working with Julie on what we needed to go for, and pretty much knocking out almost all the text from the original brochure, (I mean who wants to be given a brochures of don'ts while planning their event?), Finally figured out the idea I was going for. I went to the garden to get inspiration. Julie had done so as well and I felt, if I wanted to give a general idea of what you could do for your event, I would have to see what kind of space we were working with. I grabbed my camera, picked up my mother (hey, she needed to get out of the house and some fresh air), we went to this magical place called Linnaeus Teaching Garden.
Once I got home, discussed with Julie everything I had, we discussed ideas and where to go. I went with the direction of lights at an event, like you could possibly have if you hosted an event at the garden. Doing this I thought wasn't possible, but finally I figured a way out with the pen tool.
First I started with the Warm Red U for the entire background and then worked with the pen tool to give the "string" from the string of lights effect:
After that, I added the effect of lights. I used knockout white for the lights and then used a lower opacity of the Warm Red U to give that 'glow' look.
After that I added smaller circles with knockout white to make it even and more the effect of lights. It was tedious, made me anxious, and I had to take a break before I lost my mind or went cross eyed by the circles, but I think it gave the effect I was going for rather well.
Next I placed the photos that I had taken at the garden.
I thought it was waaaaaay too much Warm U Red and Julie agreed. So I added a knockout white rectangle and angled it behind the photos to give it a frame:
Next I rewrote pretty much the entire the entire inner brochure. I'm not trying to bash the original design or anything, but it was god awful. I'm not sure why they thought this was formal or whatever, but it was lacking charm. A friend of mine even said the whole reason they didn't book their event there last year was because of the original brochure and amount of attitude that fell from it.
I wanted to keep it short and sweet but still tie in information that I thought was necessary to have. So I wrote an intro with words that invited you in, envision this wanderlust, we welcome your event.
The second column I wanted to include details about cost, times for rentals, and the dates.
Lastly I included contact information and miscellaneous information that was appropriate and didn't feel like I was scolding a child or something.
Fixed the headers to match Julie's and we are in business!
